Algeria’s Active Role in International Energy Forum Lauded

Riyadh, November 24, 2025 – Algeria’s significant contribution to the International Energy Forum (IEF) has been recognized during bilateral talks held in Riyadh today. The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, met with IEF Secretary-General, Jasem Al Shirawi, to discuss avenues for enhanced cooperation.

The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Minister’s participation in the 21st session of the UNIDO General Conference, provided an opportunity to review the current state of cooperation between Algeria and the IEF. Discussions focused on adapting this collaboration to the evolving dynamics of the global energy sector.

According to a statement released by the Ministry, the two sides engaged in an in-depth analysis of oil and gas market developments, taking into account current fluctuations and the challenges related to energy security and the energy transition. The Minister reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for the IEF, highlighting its importance as the world’s largest gathering of energy ministers and a crucial platform for dialogue between producing and consuming nations, representing over 90% of global oil production.

The Minister emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation within this multilateral framework by expanding consultations, coordinating positions, and intensifying joint efforts to stabilize markets and stimulate long-term investments in the oil and gas industries. He also stressed the importance of enhancing partnerships in training, knowledge sharing, and human capacity development, alongside deepening the dialogue on leveraging modern technologies to ensure a balanced energy transition that aligns energy security requirements with development needs.

Secretary-General Al Shirawi commended Algeria’s active role within the IEF, praising the high level of dialogue that characterized the 15th Ministerial Meeting held in Algiers in 2016. He highlighted the resulting “Algiers Accord,” which laid the foundation for the Declaration of Cooperation (DoC) between OPEC and non-OPEC countries.

Furthermore, Al Shirawi emphasized the urgent need for sustainable and long-term investments in the hydrocarbon sector to address the continuous increase in global oil and gas demand. He advocated for a realistic approach based on a balanced energy mix that combines traditional and renewable energy sources with clean technologies.

In closing, the Minister extended a formal invitation to the Secretary-General to visit Algeria, aiming to strengthen bilateral partnerships and explore new avenues for cooperation.
