Ministry Clarifies Rules for Importing Used Cars Under 3 Years Old

Algiers, Algeria – The Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion has issued a statement clarifying the regulations governing the import of used passenger vehicles less than three years old. The statement emphasizes that the import of such vehicles by private resident individuals is subject to the provisions outlined in Article 110 of the 2020 Finance Law, as amended and supplemented by Article 208 of the 2025 Finance Law.

According to the Ministry, eligible residents are permitted to import a vehicle under this provision once every three years. The statement explicitly clarifies that this import scheme is exclusively available to individual resident citizens. It does not extend to collective entities, companies, or organizations, regardless of their nature of activity or legal structure.

DZWatch understands that this clarification comes amid some confusion regarding the scope of the import regulations. The Ministry’s statement aims to provide clear guidance to citizens wishing to take advantage of the opportunity to import a used vehicle.

Furthermore, the Ministry’s statement also included a stern warning against the sale of these imported vehicles outside the established legal framework. Any transaction must adhere strictly to existing regulations to avoid potential penalties.

The Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion reiterated its commitment to ensuring fair and transparent trade practices, while also protecting the interests of Algerian consumers.
