Cairo, Egypt – In a significant step towards bolstering strategic ties, Egypt and Algeria have signed 18 cooperation agreements, marking the culmination of the 9th session of the Joint Higher Committee. The agreements, finalized on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in Cairo, are expected to generate well over a billion dollars in joint ventures.
The four-day session involved extensive discussions and technical meetings, paving the way for deepened collaboration across various sectors. The Algerian Prime Minister, Sifi Ghaieb, arrived in Cairo on Monday, November 25th, leading a high-level delegation comprising seven ministers, including those responsible for Interior, Transport, Finance, Industry, Agriculture, Energy, Housing, and Vocational Training.
The delegation was received at Cairo International Airport by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, in a formal ceremony that underscored the strong historical relationship between the two nations. National anthems were played, and a guard of honor was inspected.
A key highlight of the visit was a meeting between Algerian Prime Minister Ghaieb and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Ittihadiya Palace. President El-Sisi emphasized the strategic importance of the Egyptian-Algerian relationship, highlighting the deep-rooted historical bonds that unite the two countries. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to working with all parties to implement a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, prevent violations, facilitate humanitarian aid, and prepare for the reconstruction of the region.
Prime Minister Ghaieb conveyed greetings from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to President El-Sisi, emphasizing President Tebboune’s high regard for his Egyptian counterpart and Algeria’s commitment to continued collaboration with Egypt. He lauded the strong historical ties between the two nations and the shared vision of both leaderships in enhancing bilateral cooperation.
