Algiers, Algeria – Algeria has affirmed its commitment to sharing its extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry with other African nations. This pledge aims to bolster continental cooperation and achieve crucial health security objectives across the continent.
Speaking at the African Ministerial Conference on Local Production of Medicines and Health Technologies, held in Algiers, Algerian Minister of Health, Mohamed Nadir Ait Said, emphasized Algeria’s dedication. He stated that Algeria is proud to offer its expertise in pharmaceutical manufacturing to its African brothers, contributing to continental collaboration, enhanced health security, and sustainable development.
The Minister highlighted the historical responsibility that Africa faces in safeguarding its health security. He urged participating nations to transform the recently adopted “Algiers Declaration” from a political document into a tangible action plan with concrete achievements that benefit every African citizen.
The “Algiers Declaration” solidifies a commitment to collective action in achieving shared goals. These include reducing regulatory barriers to facilitate safe and high-quality trade and progressing towards a more harmonized African trade bloc. This will be achieved through a comprehensive review of procedures hindering the movement of raw materials and pharmaceutical products within the continent.
Ait Said also commended the declaration’s emphasis on standardizing legislative frameworks related to pharmaceutical industries. He advocated for unified legislative approaches to minimize legal and regulatory fragmentation, enabling manufacturers to operate within a clear and transparent environment.
Furthermore, the declaration outlines the participating countries’ commitment to establishing a joint continental platform for pooling orders for raw materials. It also aims to strengthen industrial cooperation among African nations, fostering integration through the distribution of roles based on each country’s technological and human capabilities.
The conference underscores Algeria’s leading role in promoting pharmaceutical development and collaboration across the African continent, paving the way for enhanced healthcare access and self-sufficiency.
