Algiers, Algeria – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received Angolan Minister of External Relations, Antonio Tete, in Algiers today. The meeting precedes Algeria’s hosting of the International Conference on Colonial Crimes in Africa, scheduled for November 30th.
The visit underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the lasting impacts of colonialism on the African continent. Discussions between the two ministers focused on preparations for the upcoming conference, which aims to provide a platform for African nations to share experiences, analyze historical injustices, and formulate strategies for restorative justice and reconciliation.
Minister Attaf reiterated Algeria’s commitment to fostering Pan-African unity and solidarity in confronting shared challenges. He emphasized the need for a unified African voice in advocating for reparations and seeking accountability for the crimes committed during the colonial era. The conference is expected to draw participation from various African countries, as well as international organizations and experts in the field of colonial history and international law.
Furthermore, the ministers discussed the upcoming twelfth session of the “Oran Process” on Peace and Security in Africa, slated for December 1st. This forum provides a crucial platform for dialogue and cooperation on pressing security challenges facing the continent, including terrorism, transnational crime, and conflicts. The “Oran Process” aims to promote African solutions to African problems through enhanced regional cooperation and capacity building.
The meeting between Minister Attaf and Minister Tete signals a deepening of bilateral relations between Algeria and Angola, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting peace, security, and development across the African continent.
