DZWatch has learned that Algeria is preparing for a significant shift in weather patterns, with thunderstorms, heavy snowfall, and a sharp decrease in temperatures expected to impact the country starting Wednesday. The national meteorological services indicate that polar air masses are moving into the region, bringing with them the potential for intense precipitation and icy conditions.
The central and eastern regions of Algeria are forecast to experience the brunt of the weather system. Heavy rainfall and substantial snowfall are anticipated in the highlands, particularly from Tuesday evening through Saturday. Residents in these areas are advised to prepare for potentially hazardous travel conditions and disruptions to daily life.
While the central and eastern parts of the country grapple with the initial impact, the western and southwestern regions, including the far south, can expect thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday. Prior to that, the east and center will have stable weather conditions from Sunday to Tuesday. However, there is a possibility of thunderstorms impacting northern coastal and inland areas on Sunday afternoon. Significant rainfall is also predicted for the southwest, the far south, and the Hoggar and Tassili mountain ranges. The areas of Djanet, Illizi, Tamanrasset, and southern Beni Abbes are expected to receive substantial rainfall on Monday morning.
Temperature Drop Expected Across Algeria
The impending weather system will bring a noticeable drop in temperatures across the country. Expect frigid, near-freezing conditions in most regions, from north to south. Inland northern areas will see temperatures ranging from -3 to 0 degrees Celsius, while coastal areas will experience temperatures between 2 and 5 degrees Celsius. In the south, temperatures are expected to range from 5 to 10 degrees Celsius. During the afternoon, temperatures will become more moderate, ranging from 10 to 17 degrees Celsius in the north and 12 to 30 degrees Celsius in the south. DZWatch urges citizens to take necessary precautions to stay safe and warm during this period of inclement weather.
