Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf received his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti, on Sunday evening. The meeting took place on the sidelines of preparations for Algeria’s hosting of the international conference on “Criminalizing Colonialism in Africa” and the commencement of the 12th session of the Oran Process on Peace and Security in the continent.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting provided an opportunity to review the growing momentum in cooperation between Algeria and Tunisia. Both ministers emphasized the need to support and strengthen this dynamic, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming Algerian-Tunisian Joint High Commission meeting in the coming days.
The ministers also exchanged views and analyses regarding the criminalization of colonialism in Africa, considering its various historical, legal, and political dimensions. Furthermore, they discussed joint efforts within the Oran Process to promote a unified African approach in defending the continent’s priorities at the UN Security Council.
This meeting underscores the shared desire of both nations to deepen consultation and coordination, and to unify positions on regional and continental issues of mutual interest. The discussions highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between Algeria and Tunisia and their commitment to working together on key issues facing the African continent.
The focus on criminalizing colonialism reflects a growing movement within Africa to address the lasting impacts of historical injustices and to advocate for greater accountability on the international stage. The Oran Process remains a crucial framework for promoting peace and security, and Algeria’s commitment to these initiatives demonstrates its leadership role in the region.
