The Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, held a working session this Sunday morning dedicated to assessing the progress of work on the remaining sections of the western mining railway linking Bechar, Tindouf, and Gara Djebilet.
This meeting was convened in preparation for a field visit by the CEOs of various groups and construction companies, along with the Director General of ANESRIF (the delegated project owner), and a representative of the Chinese partner. The purpose of the visit is to directly observe the progress of the construction sites, examine the extent of work implementation on the ground, remove any obstacles that may hinder the project’s pace, and support the acceleration of completion according to the established schedule.
During the session, which follows the President’s instructions to put the Bechar-Tindouf railway line into service by January 2026, Minister Djellaoui provided clear directives on the need to expedite the completion of the remaining sections. He emphasized focusing on the preparation of the railway, stations, and related facilities.
The Minister also stressed the importance of completing studies related to securing the line and protecting it from sand encroachment, considering it a fundamental factor in ensuring the sustainability of this vital facility. He underscored the necessity of adhering to the work deadlines and providing all necessary materials and technical supplies.
Djellaoui directed that work be carried out around the clock to compensate for any delays and accelerate the pace of completion, allowing the project to be completed before the end of the current year. This would pave the way for its entry into service within the set timeframe.
The project is considered vital for the transport of minerals from Gara Djebilet, a region with significant iron ore deposits, contributing to Algeria’s economic diversification and industrial growth.
