Algiers, Algeria – The Algerian government officially launched its fifth generation (5G) mobile network today, marking a significant step towards modernizing the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure and fostering economic development.
The launch ceremony, held at the Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Center in Algiers, was attended by key government officials, including the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Said Ali Zerrouki, and representatives from the country’s three mobile operators: Mobilis, Ooredoo, and Djezzy. These companies were previously granted licenses to operate 5G networks within Algeria.
Minister Zerrouki hailed the 5G launch as a pivotal moment in the modernization of Algeria’s telecommunications sector. He emphasized that the rollout of 5G will play a crucial role in strengthening the country’s digital economy. The strategic objectives of this initiative align with Algeria’s national vision, which prioritizes the development and implementation of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and other advanced technologies.
“This is a crucial step towards a digital future,” stated Minister Zerrouki during the ceremony. “5G will unlock new opportunities for innovation and growth across various sectors.”
The government anticipates that the introduction of 5G will stimulate innovation in key sectors such as healthcare, Industry 4.0, education, and smart mobility. The enhanced capabilities of 5G technology are expected to provide faster data speeds, lower latency, and greater network capacity, enabling new applications and services that were previously not possible.
The rollout of 5G is expected to be gradual, with initial deployments focused on urban areas and industrial centers. The government plans to work closely with mobile operators to ensure the widespread availability of 5G services across the country in the coming years.
