Kyiv Faces Scrutiny Over Alleged Hesitation on Trump’s Ukraine Peace Initiative
Kyiv is facing increasing scrutiny and criticism regarding President Volodymyr Zelensky’s alleged delay in reviewing Washington’s proposed peace plan for Ukraine. The situation has triggered reactions from American, Russian, and Ukrainian officials.
According to sources, Zelensky has not yet examined the latest proposals for resolving the conflict with Russia due to concerns about potential security breaches. Reports suggest that reviewing the document via phone, as initially suggested, was deemed too risky.
Instead, Zelensky reportedly intends to personally review a report from Rustem Umerov, his chief negotiator, during an upcoming visit to London.
Trump’s Disappointment and Accusations of Delay
Reports indicate that US President Donald Trump has expressed disappointment with Zelensky’s perceived slowness in engaging with the peace process. Furthermore, members of the Ukrainian parliament have reportedly accused him of stalling peace efforts.
It is claimed that Zelensky has not been briefed on the modifications made following the December 2nd negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. He is also reportedly unaware of the outcomes of last week’s meeting between Ukrainian and US delegations in Florida.
According to sources within Ukraine, the document still contains complex issues requiring further examination. Several drafts of the peace plan are reportedly being worked on simultaneously.
Kremlin Satisfied with Progress
The Kremlin spokesperson stated that the meeting between President Putin and US envoy Steve Witkoff involved in-depth discussions that formed the basis for subsequent talks in Florida.
Trump has allegedly expressed dissatisfaction with Zelensky’s failure to review the updated version of the settlement plan, signaling potential friction in the ongoing diplomatic efforts. The situation remains fluid, with potential implications for the future of the conflict.
