During a working visit to Oran, the Minister of Water Resources and Water Security, Taha Derbal, emphasized that ensuring a stable supply of potable water is a top priority for the sector. He stressed the need for alternative and rapid solutions to mitigate the disruptions experienced in some areas of the province in recent days.
The Minister called for diversifying water sources through the optimal utilization of desalination plants, groundwater, and dams. He also highlighted the importance of interconnecting networks to guarantee a reserve capable of covering any emergency situation. Derbal further underscored the encouragement of complementary investments that would enhance the province’s water security and improve service stability.
Minister Derbal stressed the importance of continuous coordination between technical departments, especially the ‘SEOR’ company, to ensure regular water supply and improve the quality of public service. He clarified that the state supports all projects aimed at developing the sector, obligating the concerned parties to develop proactive emergency plans to avoid any disruptions that may affect the daily lives of citizens.
The Minister affirmed that respecting completion deadlines and adhering to international technical standards is now a necessary condition to ensure the quality of projects and protect public funds. He added that the state has injected considerable investments into the water resources sector, and “citizens have the right to feel the real impact of these efforts on the ground,” as he put it.
Despite a noticeable improvement in service quality in recent times, Derbal acknowledged that the pace of project completion is still below expectations. He called for redoubled efforts and increased efficiency in project implementation. The Ministry is committed to providing Oran with a reliable water supply. Investments in infrastructure are crucial for long-term water security.
