Algiers – Algeria and Italy are deepening their collaboration in disaster management and emergency response, signaling a renewed commitment to bilateral cooperation. This initiative follows a working visit by the Director-General of Civil Protection, Colonel Boualem, to Italy from December 15th to 18th, 2025, at the invitation of his Italian counterpart, Eros Mannino, Head of the National Fire Brigade.
The visit underscores the strategic partnership between Algeria and Italy in the realm of civil protection. A key focus is on enhanced exchange of technical expertise and practical experience, alongside the development of coordinated bilateral mechanisms. Discussions centered on preventing major hazards, effectively managing disasters, and elevating operational readiness for various emergency scenarios.
Upon arrival in Italy, the Algerian delegation, accompanied by key central directorate personnel, was received by the Algerian Ambassador to Rome, Mohamed Khelifi, before proceeding to the headquarters of the Italian Civil Protection. There, they were formally welcomed by Governor Attilio Visconti.
A formal meeting between the Algerian and Italian Directors-General addressed avenues for bolstering bilateral cooperation, particularly in operational and training aspects. The goal is to serve the mutual interests of both nations and improve the effectiveness of field interventions. This collaboration aims to foster institutional performance and support human and technical capabilities on both sides. Joint workshops involving personnel from both countries are planned.
This initiative builds upon a previous visit by an Italian delegation to Algeria in June 2025, highlighting the dedication of both countries to establishing sustainable and effective cooperation in civil protection and crisis management. The strengthened partnership reflects a shared commitment to safeguarding citizens and infrastructure against potential disasters.
