Algiers, December 16, 2025 – Algeria and Belgium are set to enhance their healthcare cooperation through the launch of twinning projects between institutions in both countries. The announcement follows a meeting between the Algerian Minister of Health, Mohamed Sadik Ait Mesaudan, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Algeria, Jean-Jacques Queria, at the Ministry headquarters.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, the meeting served as an opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen institutional collaboration. Key initiatives include establishing twinning programs between Belgian institutions and Algeria’s National Institute of Public Health and the National School of Management and Health Administration.
During the discussions, both parties explored the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement and forming a joint committee in 2026, citing favorable conditions for successful collaboration. Minister Ait Mesaudan proposed expanding the scope of cooperation to include other specialized areas, particularly pediatric cardiac surgery. He emphasized Algeria’s healthcare policies aimed at providing care to this vulnerable population through sectoral collaboration and expressed interest in leveraging European expertise in this field.
The Minister also highlighted the strategic importance of establishing specialized hospital centers as premier healthcare hubs, in line with directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He further underscored the priority given to training medical and paramedical staff and enhancing their skills.
Both parties agreed to appoint focal points to explore avenues for strengthening joint cooperation through in-person meetings and video conferencing. This collaborative effort aims to pave the way for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, solidifying the Algerian-Belgian partnership in the healthcare sector. This initiative signifies a significant step towards improving healthcare services and expertise in Algeria through international collaboration.
