Annaba Governor Signs Twinning Intent with Chongqing: A Step Towards Urban Progress

In a landmark move towards fostering international cooperation and urban development, the Governor of Annaba, Abdelkader Jellaoui, and the Deputy Mayor of Chongqing, China, have signed a “Letter of Intent” for twinning and collaboration between the two regions. This significant event was proudly announced on the official Facebook page of the Annaba province, reflecting a commitment to enhancing bilateral ties.

Governor Jellaoui, in the signing ceremony that took place yesterday, expressed his eagerness to leverage the twinning project with Chongqing—a megacity home to 32 million residents—to draw from China’s vast experience in city management, infrastructure development, urban planning, investment, tourism, and cultural affairs., Annaba-Chongqing Twinning

Highlighting the aspirations of Annaba’s authorities, Jellaoui emphasized the ongoing efforts to complete the construction, urbanization, and equipment of the new city Ben Moustapha Ben Bouda within the administrative district of Draa Errich. This initiative aims to ensure a modern quality of life and urban advancement for the local inhabitants.

On the other side, the head of the Chinese delegation reminisced about the profound cooperative relations shared between Algeria and the People’s Republic of China. He regarded the signed “Letter of Trust” as a foundational step to bolster cooperation and investments in various sectors, including infrastructure, smart industry, city administration and planning, healthcare, environmental conservation, and railway development, among others.

During their stay in Annaba, the Chinese delegation is scheduled to conduct exploratory visits to several touristic and historical sites, as well as scientific and research institutions in the ancient city of Hippo Regius (known today as Annaba).

This agreement heralds a new chapter in Algerian-Chinese relations, promising an exchange of knowledge and resources that could transform the landscape of urban development in Annaba and beyond. As both regions embark on this partnership, the implications for economic growth and cultural exchange are vast, setting a precedent for future international collaborations.
