UN Security Council Convenes Emergency Session on Somalia

United Nations, New York – The United Nations Security Council is holding an emergency session today to address the political and legal ramifications of the Zionist entity’s recognition of ‘Somaliland’. The session was convened at the urgent request of the Federal Government of Somalia.

Mogadishu has condemned the move as a ‘deliberate assault’ on its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Somali government warned against the dangerous implications of unilateral recognition, highlighting the potential for destabilization in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.

Sources anticipate that the Security Council session will feature strong condemnations of the Zionist entity’s decision. Many members are expected to criticize the action as a dangerous precedent that undermines international law and threatens regional peace and security.

The Security Council meeting coincides with intensified diplomatic efforts across the Arab world. The Arab League has announced an emergency meeting of its council at the level of permanent representatives to discuss the unfolding situation. The Arab League aims to reaffirm its unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, rejecting any unilateral measures.

Last Friday, the Federal Government of Somalia reiterated its commitment to national unity and its categorical rejection of any external recognition of ‘Somaliland’ as an independent state. Mogadishu maintains that the region remains an integral part of Somali territory.

Furthermore, the Somali government emphasized its steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. It also rejected attempts to involve Somalia in proxy conflicts or to import regional and international tensions into its territory.

Somaliland, located in northwestern Somalia, covers approximately 175,000 square kilometers. It unilaterally declared its independence in 1991 but has not received official recognition from the international community to date.
