Ensuring food security, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Abdelhafid Henni, revealed that the strategic reserves of legumes and milk powder have tripled in the last two years. Henni emphasized this accomplishment during his leadership of a national meeting to discuss key initiatives for the strategic development of the nation.

Highlighting the positive impact, he noted that this surge in reserves resulted in an abundance of grains and milk powder in the market. He credited this success to the reevaluation of the pasteurized milk distribution network, closely monitored by the Ministry of Commerce.

Henni, the sector’s primary authority, stated, “These reserves adequately meet the nation’s long-term needs.” In the context of preserving self-sufficiency in seed production for the grain sector, he added, “We have achieved self-sufficiency in legumes and milk powder, contributing significantly to Algeria’s economy – an estimated annual value of $450 million. This substantial amount underscores the realization of true food sovereignty.”
