Venezuela: Delcy Rodríguez Appointed Interim President

Caracas, Venezuela – The Supreme Constitutional Court of Venezuela announced Saturday evening the appointment of Vice President Delcy Rodríguez as interim president. This decision follows the reported removal of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife from the country by United States forces, an unprecedented event that has shaken the Venezuelan political landscape.

In an official statement, the court explained that this action falls within the constitutional mechanisms designed to ensure the continuity of state institutions and maintain administrative stability. The court deemed the president’s absence under duress necessitates the activation of temporary power transfer arrangements.

Judicial authorities emphasized that this measure is temporary, pending the full legal framework being established to guarantee the regular operation of public administration and safeguard the country’s sovereignty. The situation remains fluid and under close observation.

Previously, Delcy Rodríguez affirmed her commitment to national sovereignty and demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife. International calls for respect for international law and avoidance of escalation that could destabilize the region have been made.

This development comes after reports circulated that U.S. President Donald Trump announced a large-scale military operation in Venezuela, resulting in Maduro’s detention and transport out of the country. This has opened the door to a delicate political phase in the history of the Latin American nation. The situation is being closely monitored for further developments.
