Severe Weather Alert Issued for Northern Algeria

Algiers, Algeria – Northern Algeria is bracing for a significant weather disturbance set to impact the region starting Monday. The National Meteorological Office has issued a warning for heavy rainfall and snowfall across numerous northern provinces.

According to Boualem Essaih, a spokesperson for the Meteorological Office, the adverse weather conditions are a result of cold air masses originating from Northern Europe pushing southward towards the Mediterranean basin. This will lead to substantial rainfall across several regions.

Rainfall amounts are predicted to range between 30 and 50 millimeters, with the potential to exceed 70 millimeters in some coastal areas, particularly on Monday and Tuesday. The western provinces are expected to remain under the influence of this weather pattern until Thursday, with continued rainfall of varying intensity.

Furthermore, the weather system will bring heavy snowfall starting Tuesday. Higher elevations and the high plateaus exceeding 600 meters, especially those between 700 and 1000 meters, are expected to receive significant snowfall. Accumulations may exceed 25 centimeters in certain localities.

DZWatch urges residents, especially those traveling in mountainous regions, to exercise caution and stay informed about weather updates and advisories. The Meteorological Office will continue to monitor the situation and issue further alerts as necessary. Please avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions to secure property.
