Severe Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and High Winds Expected Across Algeria

Algiers – A significant weather system is poised to impact a large swathe of Algeria today, bringing with it the potential for heavy thunderstorms and strong winds. Over 30 wilayas are under alert as the national weather service warns of localized heavy rainfall and potentially disruptive wind conditions.

The adverse weather is expected to commence around midday and persist until midnight, affecting primarily the western and central regions of the country. The following wilayas are specifically mentioned as being at risk: El Bayadh, Naama, Sidi Bel Abbes, Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Oran, Mostaganem, Ghilizane, Tiaret, Chlef, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bouira, Blida, Medea, Ain Defla, Tissemsilt, and Oum El Bouaghi.

Furthermore, the eastern highlands are also forecast to experience considerable thunderstorm activity, with rainfall expected to continue until approximately 6:00 PM. Affected wilayas in this region include Laghouat, Djelfa, Ouled Djellal, M’Sila, Batna, Tebessa, and Khenchela.

In the southern provinces, strong winds accompanied by significant sandstorms are anticipated between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. These conditions could severely reduce visibility, particularly in the wilayas of Ouargla, Ghardaia, El Menia, Timimoun, Adrar, In Salah, and Tamanrasset.

Citizens are strongly advised to exercise caution, especially those traveling on the roads. The weather service urges the public to stay informed and monitor weather updates for any changes in the forecast.
