Meetings held in Damascus between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have concluded without a breakthrough. Discussions focused on integrating military forces, but both sides have agreed to continue negotiations in a structured manner until tangible results are achieved. This comes as the deadline for implementing a previous agreement signed in March has passed without fulfillment.
Sources indicate that the meetings, which were attended by SDF commander Mazloum Abdi, failed to produce significant progress towards the implementation of the March agreement. The agreement, signed by President Ahmad al-Share’ and Abdi, aimed to integrate civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria under state administration. Key components of the agreement included opening border crossings, airports, oil and gas fields, and affirming the country’s territorial integrity. However, implementation has reportedly stalled.
Meanwhile, in Aleppo, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced the arrest of eight individuals with alleged ties to the former Syrian regime. These individuals, described as “remnants of the regime,” were apprehended near Deir Hafer, east of Aleppo, while attempting to illegally cross into SDF-controlled areas. The detainees will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.
These arrests follow recent violence in Aleppo, where civilian casualties were reported due to indiscriminate shelling and sniper fire. Syrian authorities stated that the sources of fire have been neutralized.
