Education Minister Addresses Teacher Recruitment Hurdles

Algiers – Minister of National Education, Mohamed Sghir Saadaoui, chaired a national conference via video conference on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from the ministry headquarters in El Mouradia. The conference, attended by central administration officials, education directors, and appointed directors, focused on monitoring the progress of various educational and administrative operations during the current academic term.

The Minister provided necessary guidance to ensure the sound application of legal and regulatory texts, and to enhance the quality of local management. Key topics discussed included the teacher recruitment competition based on qualifications.

The Minister emphasized the need for strict adherence to the legal procedures governing the submission of applications, particularly concerning qualifications. He stressed the importance of ensuring transparency and equal opportunities for all candidates, while fully respecting applicable legal and regulatory texts.

Minister Saadaoui invited education directors to raise concerns and observations regarding challenges encountered during the registration process. He assured them of the ministry’s commitment to addressing these concerns to ensure the smooth running of the competition. A monitoring unit has been established within the central administration to study inquiries and provide necessary clarifications.

The Minister also addressed aspects related to accepted qualifications, referring to the supplementary circular listing the qualifications required for employment and promotion within the national education sector. This list has been approved by the Directorate General of Public Service.

Regarding states with higher teacher training colleges or their annexes, the Minister highlighted the high degree of coordination between the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This collaboration aims to address the needs expressed regarding graduates from higher teacher training colleges. This has led to the establishment of higher colleges and the opening of numerous annexes in various states, with the goal of training a greater number of teachers.
