Counterfeit Spice Ring Busted in Setif

Setif, Algeria – In a significant operation aimed at safeguarding public health and combating economic crime, the National Gendarmerie in Setif dismantled a clandestine workshop engaged in the production of counterfeit spices. The operation resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of a substantial quantity of non-compliant materials.

According to sources within the Gendarmerie, the raid was prompted by credible intelligence indicating the existence of an illegal workshop operating on the outskirts of Salah Bey municipality. This facility was allegedly involved in the blending and manufacturing of various types of spices without the necessary legal permits and in complete disregard of hygiene and health safety standards.

Following intensive investigations and precise location identification, a meticulously planned security operation was executed, leading to the raid of the workshop. The operation was conducted in coordination with the Regional Inspectorate of Commerce and the Quality Control and Fraud Suppression services of Ain Oulmane.

The raid resulted in the seizure of over 2.5 tons of spices prepared for packaging and distribution. Authorities also confiscated machinery and equipment used in the fraudulent operation. The total estimated value of the seized goods is approximately 121.3 million centimes.

Upon completion of the standard legal procedures, the suspect and the case file will be presented to the competent judicial authorities for further adjudication. This operation underscores the commitment of Algerian authorities to protecting consumers from fraudulent products and ensuring fair trade practices.
