Algeria to Import One Million Sheep Ahead of Eid al-Adha

In anticipation of the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has ordered the import of one million sheep. The move aims to bolster the national livestock market and ensure a sufficient supply of sacrificial animals for the religious holiday.

Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui informed the members of the government of the President’s decision during a cabinet meeting held Wednesday. He emphasized the significance of this initiative in meeting the expected surge in demand during Eid al-Adha.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Fisheries has been tasked with immediately undertaking the necessary measures to implement the presidential directive. This includes coordinating the logistics of importing such a large quantity of livestock and ensuring their proper distribution throughout the country.

The government hopes that this measure will stabilize prices and prevent shortages, allowing Algerian families to observe the Eid al-Adha tradition without undue financial burden. The imported sheep are expected to supplement locally raised livestock, contributing to a more balanced and accessible market.
