Algeria’s Green Energy Corporation, led by General Manager Boukhalfa Yaici, has announced the anticipated launch of the Solar 1000 project, expected to generate around 2000 megawatts of electricity by mid-2025. In a statement to the national radio, Yaici highlighted that the actual initiation of Solar 1000 is slated for 2024, under the full patronage of the Sonelgaz conglomerate.

Yaici elaborated that the Solar project encompasses 11 provinces, primarily in the southern region, with a total cost of 171.7 billion dinars, equivalent to 1.175 billion dollars. He also mentioned that the coming days would see the signing of contracts between Sonelgaz for Renewable Energies and the contracting institutions. The Solar 1000 solar energy project aims to produce 15,000 megawatts of clean electricity by 2035.

Furthermore, Boukhalfa projected the production of over 600 megawatts before the end of 2024, advancing towards approximately 2000 megawatts by mid-2025. He revealed that the project would facilitate the production of Algerian-manufactured solar panels. Emphasizing that “Solar 1000” is just the beginning, he noted Algeria’s plans for a larger project related to the green economy.

Yaici called for accelerating the manufacture and transformation of green hydrogen in Algeria, focusing on ammonia production and other agricultural needs. With Algeria witnessing significant changes, he emphasized this as a step towards economic diversification, particularly given the country’s natural gas reserves, a competitive advantage likely to attract foreign investment in Algeria.
