National University Cross Country Championship Kicks Off

Algiers, January 10, 2026 – The National University Cross Country Championship has officially commenced at the Mohamed Boudiaf Olympic Complex in Algiers.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Baddari, inaugurated the event, highlighting its significance in fostering athletic talent within the university system. In a statement to state television, Minister Baddari announced that approximately 200 students from various universities across the country are participating. The competition aims to identify and qualify 12 students who will represent Algeria at the upcoming World University Cross Country Championship.

“This championship embodies the directives and commitments of the President of the Republic to strengthen the position of university sports,” Minister Baddari stated. “It aims to cultivate an elite group of athletes who will shine regionally and internationally, reflecting the true image of a victorious and rising New Algeria that invests in its universities, the potential of its students, and its youth.”

The championship serves as a qualifying event for the World University Cross Country Championship, scheduled to take place in Italy this coming March. The top performers in Algiers will earn the opportunity to compete on the global stage, representing Algeria’s commitment to excellence in university sports.
