Syrian President Lauds Strong Ties with Egypt, Prioritizes Reconstruction

Damascus – Syrian President Ahmed al-Share has affirmed the critical importance of the Syrian-Egyptian relationship, emphasizing its necessity for regional stability and mutual benefit. During a meeting Sunday with a delegation from the Egyptian Federation of Chambers of Commerce in Damascus, President al-Share highlighted the historical and geostrategic significance of the bond between the two nations.

“Throughout history, Syrian-Egyptian integration has been fundamental for regional stability, economic cooperation, and strategic security,” stated President al-Share. He emphasized that both countries face similar challenges and that closer ties would not only benefit Syria and Egypt but also strengthen the entire Arab world.

President al-Share underscored that Egyptian companies should be prioritized in the reconstruction efforts in Syria, citing Egypt’s significant expertise in infrastructure and energy developed under President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi over the past decade. He emphasized the need to leverage this experience to rebuild Syria.

Strategic Partnerships and Economic Integration

The Syrian President expressed Syria’s desire to build strategic partnerships with Egypt in areas such as port development, gas exploration off the Mediterranean coast, oil sector rehabilitation, railway infrastructure, and the extension of fiber optic networks to connect Europe with China through Syrian territory.

Furthermore, President al-Share emphasized the importance of a joint “food basket” initiative between Syria, Egypt, and Iraq to meet regional needs and reduce reliance on costly imports from other continents. He noted the similarities between the Syrian and Egyptian markets, stating that trade between the two countries is streamlined and that the Syrian government will facilitate Egyptian investments within the country.

President al-Share also expressed gratitude to the Egyptian people for their hospitality towards Syrian refugees during the war, acknowledging their well-known generosity. He emphasized that the Syrian state would facilitate all possible avenues for Egyptian investments within Syria.

This meeting signals a strong commitment from both Syria and Egypt to deepen their strategic partnership and work together towards regional stability and economic prosperity.
