RSF Attack Kills Dozens in Sudan’s Sennar State

Sennar, Sudan – A deadly attack attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has claimed the lives of at least 27 people in the city of Singa, Sennar State, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The incident, which occurred yesterday, involved the use of a drone and resulted in numerous casualties.

According to a Sudanese military source, the RSF drone targeted Singa, striking both security personnel and civilians who were accompanying military leaders from various states. The attack has instilled fear among residents, highlighting the dangers posed by the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in populated areas.

A spokesperson for the Sennar State government, Salah Adam Abdullah, confirmed that a “strategic drone” targeted Singa. He stated that the army’s anti-aircraft defenses engaged the drone. Abdullah acknowledged the civilian casualties and injuries resulting from the attack, but reassured the public that the situation had stabilized and that normal life had resumed in the city.

In a related development, the Governor of White Nile State, Qamar al-Din Fadl al-Mawla, narrowly escaped the attack. He was attending an official meeting in Singa when the drone struck. The Sudanese Ministry of Information reported that two of the governor’s aides were killed in the attack, underscoring the severity of the strike and the wide scope of its impact.

Singa’s strategic location, approximately 300 kilometers southeast of Khartoum, makes it a crucial link between army-controlled areas in eastern and central Sudan. This strategic importance explains the rationale behind the attempt to target it at this time. The city acts as a vital hub in the region.

The attack comes amid escalating tensions and ongoing military confrontations in several parts of the country, as well as an increase in displacement from North Darfur.
