Algerian Army Achieves Key Anti-Terror, Crime Successes

Algiers – The People’s National Army (ANP) has reported significant operational successes in its ongoing efforts to safeguard national security and combat various threats across Algeria between January 8th and 13th, 2026.

According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, these operations yielded notable results in the fight against terrorism, organized crime, and illegal immigration.

In the fight against terrorism, ANP detachments apprehended five individuals providing support to terrorist groups in separate operations conducted throughout the country.

On the front lines against organized crime, joint detachments, in coordination with security services, arrested 40 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 304 kilograms of treated cannabis across the border with Morocco. Authorities also seized 34.7 kilograms of cocaine and 218,222 psychotropic tablets.

In the southern regions of Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and In Guezzam, ANP units detained 200 individuals and confiscated 36 vehicles, 132 generators, and 107 pressure hammers. Additionally, they seized quantities of raw gold and stone mixture, along with equipment used in illegal gold mining activities.

Further operations led to the arrest of 12 individuals and the seizure of one FMPK machine gun, three Kalashnikov submachine guns, and four hunting rifles, along with 33,050 liters of fuel intended for smuggling.

Efforts to combat illegal immigration included thwarting attempts of illegal crossings and rescuing 71 individuals aboard makeshift boats. Furthermore, 205 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were apprehended across the national territory.

This weekly report underscores the high level of readiness and unwavering vigilance of the People’s National Army in confronting terrorism, organized crime, and illegal immigration, thereby reinforcing the country’s security and stability. The ANP remains committed to protecting Algeria and its citizens.
