International Fiat Speculation Ring Dismantled

Tipaza, Algeria – An international criminal network specializing in the illicit trade and speculation of Fiat vehicles has been dismantled by the National Gendarmerie’s Research and Investigation Unit in Tipaza.

The operation, conducted on January 15, 2026, stemmed from intelligence gathered by the unit regarding irregularities in the marketing of Fiat Doblo Panorama vehicles manufactured in Algeria. Investigations revealed a sophisticated scheme involving both individuals and corporate entities of various nationalities.

Beyond speculation, the network was also involved in importing new and near-new (less than three years old) vehicles without proper licenses or authorization from relevant authorities. This was achieved through fraudulent means, including the establishment of companies both within Algeria and abroad, all controlled by the same international network. The purpose was to evade oversight, smuggle currency in and out of the country, and commit tax evasion.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 61 vehicles of various makes and models. Authorities also confiscated 5,990,000 Algerian Dinars, 700 Euros, mobile phones, computer equipment, two currency counting machines, company and personal seals, and foreign vehicle registration plates.

Thirteen suspects have been apprehended and will be presented before the competent judicial authorities on charges including forming an organized criminal network for the purpose of preparing international crimes, illegal vehicle speculation, money laundering, smuggling foreign currency in and out of the country using fraudulent and illegal methods, tax evasion, operating as a multi-brand car dealership without registration or authorization, violating regulations pertaining to foreign exchange and capital movement, failure to report corruption offenses, and engaging in practices aimed at receiving hidden value differences.
