Algeria and Oman Explore Enhanced Fertilizer Production Cooperation

Algiers, January 20, 2026 – Algeria and Oman are exploring avenues to strengthen collaboration in fertilizer production, focusing on key projects and potential investment opportunities.

The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received a delegation from the Suhail Bahwan Holding Group, led by its Chairman, Sheikh Saad Suhail Bahwan, at the Ministry headquarters today. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Algeria, Saif Rashid Al-Badai, and the CEO of Sonatrach, Noureddine Daoudi, along with ministry officials.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed the existing cooperation and partnership between Sonatrach and the Suhail Bahwan Holding Group, exploring ways to enhance and expand it, particularly in the hydrocarbons and petrochemicals sectors. Discussions centered on fertilizer production projects, including ammonia and urea, and the potential for expanding the group’s investments in Algeria, specifically in the fertilizer industry.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to explore available investment opportunities in Algeria, particularly in sectors related to hydrocarbons and mining. The Algerian side highlighted recent reforms, incentives, and new legal and regulatory frameworks designed to improve the business climate, encourage foreign investment, and foster mutually beneficial strategic partnerships.

Minister Arkab emphasized Algeria’s commitment to creating a favorable environment for foreign investors, highlighting the country’s strategic location and abundant natural resources. He reiterated the government’s dedication to facilitating partnerships that contribute to Algeria’s economic diversification and sustainable development.

Sheikh Saad Suhail Bahwan expressed the Suhail Bahwan Holding Group’s interest in expanding its presence in Algeria, recognizing the country’s potential as a regional hub for fertilizer production and distribution. He commended the Algerian government’s efforts to improve the investment climate and expressed confidence in the future of Algerian-Omani economic cooperation.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening economic cooperation between Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman, particularly through reinforcing the existing partnership between Sonatrach and the Suhail Bahwan Holding Group. This collaboration aims to support sustainable development and consolidate economic relations between the two nations.

The discussions mark a significant step towards bolstering Algeria’s fertilizer industry and enhancing its role as a key player in the regional market.
