Algiers, January 24, 2026 – The Rassemblement National Démocratique (RND) party has issued a strong rebuke against a recent program aired on a French public television channel, denouncing it as a politically motivated smear campaign disguised as investigative journalism.
In a statement released today, the RND expressed its “surprise and dismay” at the broadcast, arguing that it was a “crude exercise in political distortion, falsely cloaked in the guise of journalistic work.” The party accused the program of perpetuating outdated and hostile narratives by featuring individuals known for their animosity towards Algeria and their association with discredited political agendas.
The RND emphasized that Algeria, with its history, institutions, and sovereign choices, cannot be defined from abroad or measured by standards imposed by media platforms. The party criticized the channel for blurring the lines between professional investigation and directed propaganda, and between factual reporting and deliberate fabrication.
The statement further noted the timing of the broadcast, coinciding with the Algerian parliament’s ratification of a law criminalizing colonialism. The RND suggested this reveals a continued effort by certain circles to recycle old prejudices and animosities in a futile attempt to revive a narrative that has long been overtaken by reality. The era of tutelage is definitively over, the RND asserted, leaving only the bitterness of the past cloaked in ‘news’ formats.
The RND strongly condemned what it described as the use of vulgar language against Algerian symbols on a French public channel, calling it an “unprecedented media and ethical scandal” that reflects the channel’s audacity and the dangerous erosion of standards within a French media outlet that claims professionalism while indulging in provocation and moral lapses.
Addressing these serious transgressions, the RND reaffirmed that Algeria is a sovereign nation whose decisions are made within its constitutional framework, not in foreign editorial rooms. The party insisted that national sovereignty is non-negotiable and cannot be drawn into futile disputes.
The RND concluded by stating that Algeria does not require “certificates of good conduct” and will not be governed by pre-independence mentalities. It stressed that relations between countries should be based on mutual respect and equality, not on media sensationalism or exploitation.
