Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline Dominates Arqab-Niger Counterpart Talks

Niamey, Niger – Discussions surrounding the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) took center stage during a meeting between Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arqab, and Niger’s Minister of Petroleum, Hamad Tini, held in Niamey on Monday. The meeting underscores the ongoing commitment to advance this strategically important project.

The meeting was attended by Sonatrach CEO, Noureddine Daoudi, and the General Manager of Sonatrach International Holding, Bouraara Cherif, alongside senior officials from both ministries, as well as representatives from the Algerian embassy in Niamey.

Talks initially focused on Sonatrach’s current operations in Niger, with particular emphasis on the progress of exploration activities within the Kafra block in northern Niger. Minister Arqab reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment, through Sonatrach, to resume previously agreed-upon exploration activities in the region.

Crucially, the discussions provided an opportunity to assess the advancement of the TSGP project. The ministers reviewed various facets of the pipeline, examining the implementation of decisions made during previous trilateral meetings involving the energy ministers of Algeria, Niger, and Nigeria.

The Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline represents a significant undertaking with the potential to transform energy dynamics across the region. Its successful completion is anticipated to boost economic growth and foster greater cooperation between the participating nations.

The pipeline project remains a key priority for both Algeria and Niger, and this meeting signals a renewed push to overcome any remaining obstacles and accelerate its realization. Further updates on the TSGP’s progress will be provided as they become available.
