Sonelgaz Places Its Expertise at the Disposal of Niger’s Nigelec

A technical team from the Nigerien electricity company, Nigelec, arrived in Algiers on Tuesday to undergo integrated training at a subsidiary of Sonelgaz. The program aims to provide the team with the necessary expertise to operate power plants that Algeria plans to construct in Niger.

According to a statement from the public group Sonelgaz, the technical team will follow a three-week training program at the Engineering Training School in Adrar. This initiative implements the recommendations of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to activate cooperation between Algeria and Niger, following the recent visit of the Nigerien President to Algeria last February.

The visit program included a preparatory meeting for the Nigerien delegation at the Management Training School in Ben Aknoun, where a presentation was given on the services provided by Sonelgaz. The team then visited the control center to receive explanations regarding the management and control system of the electrical grid.

This step follows a series of preparations aimed at ensuring the success of this cooperation, including a high-level video conference between officials from both companies. During that meeting, they discussed ways to accelerate the pace of partnership and finalize pending agreements.

This initiative is part of the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies’ program to relaunch cooperation with Nigelec. The program covers several areas, most notably supporting the electrical grid in Niger and transferring Algerian expertise across various specialties through training services.

In the same context, a delegation of technical experts from Sonelgaz had previously traveled to the Nigerien capital, Niamey, as part of the project to build a power plant and provide technical and logistical support to Nigelec. During that visit, a joint action plan was established, and representative teams were formed to ensure coordination and accelerate implementation.
