General Union of Algerian Merchants and Artisans Praises President Tebboune’s Decisions

The General Union of Algerian Merchants and Artisans praised on Sunday the strict instructions issued by the President of the Republic regarding the intensification of daily field monitoring to combat illegal speculation, particularly in certain fruits and imported meats. These measures include blacklisting those involved and permanently banning them from engaging in commercial or import activities.

In a statement, the union noted that these firm measures send a clear message that the national market will not be an arena for chaos or manipulation of citizens’ livelihoods. The union reaffirmed its full involvement and field commitment alongside public authorities to purge the national market of intruders and speculators, working to establish a culture of fair trade based on respect for the law and professional ethics, thereby protecting honest merchants and enhancing trust between citizens and the market.

The union expressed satisfaction with the decisions taken regarding the importation of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid al-Adha, setting a price cap not exceeding 50,000 dinars, while imposing strict control over the import and distribution process. These measures are expected to ensure product availability, protect citizens’ purchasing power, and prevent any attempts at speculation or monopoly.

The same source emphasized that honest merchants and economic operators will remain essential partners in ensuring market stability and regular supply. The union also renewed its commitment to accompanying and supervising them while strengthening the spirit of economic responsibility to serve the national interest and maintain economic and social balances.

The union concluded its statement by stressing that the current stage requires the implementation of an integrated and harmonious participatory approach involving the government, professional organizations, economic actors, and various national forces. This aim is to build a strong and diverse emerging national economy capable of facing challenges and achieving sustainable development, thereby enshrining national economic decision-making sovereignty and serving the interests of Algerian citizens.
