Sonatrach Accelerates Progress on Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline Project

Sonatrach Group confirmed on Tuesday that the operational phase of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project will be launched immediately after the month of Ramadan, following the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

According to a statement from the group, a technical team including representatives from Sonatrach and the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines was dispatched to Niamey to collect technical data related to the pipeline’s path within Nigerien territory, in coordination with local authorities.

The team’s work focuses on studying legal and regulatory aspects in Niger, particularly regarding construction and pipeline laying procedures, risk and environmental impact studies, and the various permits necessary for this energy project.

The visit program also includes technical meetings with officials from the Nigerien Petroleum Company (SONIDEP), officials from the Ministry of Petroleum in Niger, and other relevant parties to discuss the project’s first operational stages.

This phase will be built on the results of the preliminary feasibility study conducted by the consulting firm Penspen, as a prelude to launching detailed studies of the pipeline route before moving to the implementation stage.

The Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project is one of the most prominent strategic projects, connecting Nigeria, Niger, and Algeria, which enhances African energy integration and supports Algeria’s position as a regional hub in the energy market.

This direction embodies Algeria’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with African countries and promoting South-South cooperation, in addition to expanding Sonatrach’s presence in the continental energy scene.
