Football: FIFA President Gianni Infantino Arrives in Algeria for Official Visit

Algiers – The President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, arrived in Algiers this Thursday morning for an official working visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the global football governing body and Algeria.​Infantino was welcomed upon his arrival by the President of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), Walid Sadi. This visit marks the FIFA chief’s second official trip to the country, following his 2023 visit for the inauguration of the Nelson Mandela Stadium.​Focus on Infrastructure and Youth Development​A primary objective of this visit is the official inauguration of the new Regional Technical Training Center in Tlemcen (Lalla Setti). The facility, largely funded by FIFA through its development programs, is designed to serve as a hub for:​Talent Identification: Scouting and nurturing young Algerian prospects.​Technical Training: Elevating coaching and management standards to international levels.​Modernization: Providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for regional football growth.​Diplomatic Engagements​In addition to the field visits, Infantino is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with senior Algerian officials, including an expected audience with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.​The discussions are set to focus on Algeria’s growing role in African football and the continued support from FIFA for strategic projects, especially following Algeria’s recent qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.​This visit underscores the deepening partnership between FIFA and the Algerian Football Federation as the “Desert Foxes” prepare to return to the global stage after a 12-year absence.
