Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed on Monday Algeria’s full readiness to continue working alongside the Vatican to promote understanding over division, dialogue over confrontation, and coexistence over hostility.
Speaking at the Cultural Center of the Grand Mosque of Algiers before Pope Leo XIV, Tebboune told dzwatch: “I renew to His Holiness Algeria’s complete readiness to work with the Vatican State to elevate the spirit of understanding, spread dialogue, and strengthen coexistence.”
The President emphasized Algeria’s historic role as a refuge for the oppressed and a champion of just causes across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe.
Tebboune also addressed the Palestinian cause directly, stating: “We call alongside His Holiness on every living conscience in the world to bring justice to the Palestinian people — to enable relief, halt systematic crimes against them, and uphold their inalienable right to establish their state.”
He praised the Pope’s “courageous and humanitarian” stance on the Gaza tragedy, adding that Algeria finds solace in the Vatican’s moral position. The President also called for peace and stability in Lebanon and the Gulf region.
