Petković to Reveal Algeria’s 26-Player Squad for 2026 World Cup Battle Today

Algerian football fans are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the final 26-player squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. National team coach Vladimir Petković is set to announce his selections this Sunday afternoon during a press conference at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki, scheduled to commence at 3:00 PM local time.

Algeria World Cup 2026 squad announcement

The announcement comes after a period of speculation, with Petković opting to delay the reveal until the final deadline. The chosen players will carry the hopes of millions of Algerians in the upcoming global tournament. The squad will compete in Group J, alongside Argentina, Jordan, and Austria.

Following the press conference, the national team is slated to conduct an open training session for fans at the Mandela Stadium at 5:00 PM, marking the conclusion of their Algiers training camp. The team will then travel to Rotterdam for their first friendly match against the Netherlands on Wednesday, before heading to the United States for their final warm-up game against Bolivia on June 10th.

A significant portion of the press conference is expected to address the fitness status of key players, particularly goalkeeper Leca Zidane and midfielder Hicham Boudaoui. Both players have been subjects of recent concern. Zidane has faced limited playing time due to an injury sustained in April with his Spanish club Granada. Similarly, Boudaoui suffered a concussion last week during a crucial match for his French club Nice, causing him to miss their recent league decider.

Petković's press conference will also likely clarify the reasons behind the exclusion of prominent players such as Ismaël Bennacer and Baghdad Bounedjah. Their absence from the final squad has raised many questions among followers, given their established roles and experience in major tournaments.

The goalkeeping position is another focal point, with five goalkeepers currently in the training camp competing for the three available spots in the final World Cup roster. Alongside Leca Zidane and Melvin Maestri, and the recently returned Oussama Benbot, the camp also includes Abdelatif Ramdane from MC Algiers and Kylian Belgacem from Stade Rennais. Petković will need to make difficult decisions, with initial indications suggesting Zidane and Benbot are strong contenders for two spots, while Ramdane, Maestri, and Belgacem vie for the remaining position.
