Mostaganem, Algeria – Agricultural authorities in the wilaya of Mostaganem have announced a robust harvest of seasonal potatoes, with production exceeding 2.5 million quintals for the 2025-2026 agricultural campaign. This significant yield underscores the region's vital role in Algeria's agricultural sector.

The Directorate of Agricultural Services (DSA) reported that the total production volume reached 2,546,000 quintals. This was achieved from the harvesting of 8,489 hectares, out of a total cultivated area of 9,574 hectares dedicated to this crucial crop during the current campaign. The average yield per hectare has been noted at approximately 300 quintals, reflecting successful cultivation practices and favorable conditions. Harvest operations have been completed across nearly 89% of the cultivated land, aligning with initial projections.

Further projections indicate that the overall production is expected to reach 3,056,000 quintals once the remaining areas are harvested, a process anticipated to conclude next month. These figures also encompass the production of seed potatoes, cultivated over 97 hectares, which is projected to yield 24,400 quintals.

This abundant harvest plays a critical role in ensuring the consistent supply of potatoes to both national and regional markets. It helps maintain the availability of this widely consumed product and contributes to keeping prices stable and accessible for consumers. Mostaganem remains a key potato-producing hub in Algeria, with an annual output often nearing 4 million quintals. The wilaya's production capacity allows it to supply markets year-round, notably during peak demand periods in the second quarter (March-June) with seasonal crops and in the fourth quarter (October-December) with late-season varieties.
