President Tebboune Chairs Key Meeting on Strategic Hydrocarbon and Phosphate Projects

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune convened a high-level working session to advance crucial projects within Algeria's vital hydrocarbon sector. The meeting underscored the nation's commitment to strategic industrial development, particularly focusing on major fertilizer production complexes and infrastructure enhancements.

Key discussions centered on the integrated phosphate project, poised for production commencement in the first quarter of 2027. This ambitious initiative includes the production of phosphates, ammonia, and urea, positioning Algeria as a significant player in the fertilizer market. In tandem, the extension of the Annaba port is slated for completion during the same period, ensuring readiness for the export of initial phosphate shipments.

Furthermore, the strategic financing and execution plan for the Algiers-Tamanrasset railway line were thoroughly examined. A decisive step was taken to commence construction by September at the latest, with the project divided into three major phases: Ouargla-In Salah, In Salah-Tamanrasset, and Tamanrasset-In Salah. This transformative rail link promises to enhance connectivity and logistical capabilities across the country.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, Minister of State, Inspector General of State Services and Local Authorities, Brahim Merad, Minister of Energy Transition and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Finance, Laâziz Faid, Governor of the Bank of Algeria, Bangou Brahim, and the CEO of Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi.
