President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria presided over a significant working meeting today, dedicated to advancing key structural projects within the hydrocarbon sector and other strategic national initiatives. The discussions underscored Algeria's commitment to bolstering its industrial capabilities and infrastructure.

The presidential statement detailed that the meeting specifically addressed the development of a phosphoric fertilizer production complex and an integrated phosphate project. This ambitious integrated project aims to produce ammonia and urea, alongside both phosphoric and nitrogen-based fertilizers, marking a significant step in diversifying Algeria's industrial output. It was announced that the integrated phosphate project is slated to commence production during the first quarter of 2027. This timeline aligns with the completion of the Annaba Port expansion, ensuring its readiness to facilitate the export of the initial phosphate shipments within the same period.
Further deliberation during the meeting focused on the financing strategy for the crucial Algeria-Tamanrasset railway line. A definitive decision was made to initiate construction work no later than September, with operations commencing across three major segments: Ouargla – Ain Salah, Ain Salah – Tamanrasset, and Tamanrasset – Ain Salah. This railway project is poised to significantly enhance internal connectivity and economic logistics.
Key officials present at the high-level meeting included Prime Minister Seifi Gharib, Minister of State for the General Inspectorate of State and Local Authorities Ibrahim Mourad, Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Finance Abdelkrim Bouzard, Governor of the Bank of Algeria Mohamed Lamine Lebou, and the CEO of Sonatrach, Noureddine Daoudi.
