Argentina Bars 13,000 Fathers from World Cup Matches Over Unpaid Child Support

Argentina's government is taking a firm stance against fathers who have fallen behind on child support payments, barring approximately 13,000 individuals from attending the 2026 World Cup matches in the United States. The city government of Buenos Aires compiled a list of these delinquent fathers and shared their information with U.S. authorities as part of a broader strategy to prevent them from accessing stadiums during the tournament.

Argentina World Cup child support ban

Buenos Aires Mayor Jorge Macri announced the measure as part of the city's "Safe Stands" initiative, which aims to enhance oversight at major sporting events. Macri emphasized that fulfilling family obligations is a fundamental requirement. He stated that those who fail to meet their financial responsibilities for child support will be prohibited from entering stadiums throughout the World Cup.

The report indicates that the extensive list necessitates affected individuals to resolve their legal and financial situations before attempting to attend any of the tournament's games.

The Argentine national team is set to begin its World Cup campaign against Algeria, followed by matches against Austria on June 22 and Jordan on June 28.
