Algeria's electricity generation reached 96.4 terawatt-hours (TWh) in 2024, a slight increase from 95.84 TWh in 2023, according to recent energy data. Natural gas continues to dominate the national electricity generation mix, accounting for a substantial 98.6 percent share.

The increased electricity output was primarily aimed at meeting domestic demand, which registered 93.8 TWh in 2024, marginally up from 93.4 TWh the previous year. Despite the overall rise in electricity production, there has been a notable decrease in natural gas consumption within power generation facilities. Consumption fell to 18.86 billion cubic meters in 2024, down from 21.02 billion cubic meters in 2023.
This data also points to the nascent stages of Algeria's energy transition, with a growing emphasis on solar power initiatives to diversify the energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
