Finance Minister Laaziz Faid emphasized that the Customs Authority is pivotal in implementing the country’s economic policy by facilitating trade exchanges and enhancing methods to combat fraud and smuggling.

During his oversight of the National Meeting “Customs-Justice,” Faid stated that the Algerian Customs Authority is “one of the vital agencies of the Ministry of Finance, playing crucial roles that enable it to contribute significantly to the public treasury through tax revenues.”

In addition to its effective contribution to improving the business climate, the minister added, customs work is aligned with the government’s efforts to encourage investment and local production, expand non-hydrocarbon exports, and bolster security efforts. Customs officers are stationed at border points, cover the entire national territory, and are committed to fighting smuggling and cross-border crime.

Faid also confirmed that the General Directorate of Customs is working to strengthen its relationships with the justice system by addressing mutual issues through several meetings between the two entities.

The minister noted that these meetings have resulted in recommendations that outline the general framework for fostering coordination between the two bodies. This includes bilateral meetings to address various practical and legal issues.

Furthermore, Faid revealed that the achievements from these meetings have led to finding solutions to challenges in the area of customs disputes.
