Algiers Hosts, National Team Captures African Jujitsu Title

Algeria has been crowned champion of the 2026 African Jujitsu Championship, successfully hosted at the Salle Omnisports (Oval Hall) within the Mohamed Boudiaf Olympic Complex in Algiers. The prestigious continental competition, which ran from September 17 to 20, saw the national elite team achieve a remarkable performance, leading the overall medal standings across all categories.

The Algerian contingent secured an impressive total of 172 medals, demonstrating significant athletic depth across senior, youth, and junior divisions. This dominant haul included 67 gold medals, 58 silver medals, and 47 bronze medals. Athletes competed in various disciplines, including Duo, Fighting, Contact Jiu, and No-Gi, highlighting the team's versatility and skill. The championship attracted more than 250 male and female athletes representing nine different African nations.

Algeria's strong showing placed it firmly at the top of the general classification, significantly ahead of the competition. Tunisia secured second place with a total of 76 medals, comprising 37 gold, 24 silver, and 15 bronze. Mauritius followed in third position, earning 14 medals, which included 3 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze. The nation's victory at this major continental event underscores its growing prominence in the sport of Jujitsu.
