Ten German Firms Seek Algerian Green Hydrogen Prospects

A delegation of ten German companies specializing in the energy sector conducted a prospecting mission in Algeria, focusing on green hydrogen, Power-to-X technologies, renewable energies, and energy storage solutions. The mission, which took place from September 21 to 25, 2026, included an event on September 21, 2026, hosted by the AHK Algérie in Algiers, where the German firms gathered to explore potential investments.

During their visit to Algiers, the German companies were presented with various initiatives and projects contributing to Algeria's energy transition efforts. Representatives from the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) participated in the discussions. Stephen Draexler also outlined the activities of the TAQATY project, and the visiting German companies subsequently showcased their technologies, solutions, and areas of expertise to the Algerian stakeholders.

This interest aligns with Algeria's ambitious national strategy for green hydrogen, which aims for a 2.5 gigawatt (GW) electrolysis capacity by 2030, increasing to 7 GW by 2040. The strategy also includes the planned reconversion of the TransMed pipeline to support these goals, further cementing Algeria's role in future energy exports through projects such as the SoutH2 Corridor.
