Tunisia to Receive 1400 MW Algerian Power Plant

Algeria is moving forward with plans to construct a 1400 MW electric power plant in Tunisia, a development that underscores its commitment to regional energy stability. This initiative is complemented by Algeria's reconfirmed pledge to continue its energy exports to Tunisia, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two nations. These efforts are guided by directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing the importance of supporting Tunisia's energy sector.

The Algerian Minister of Energy, Mourad Adjal, reiterated Algeria's commitment to supporting the energy stability of Tunisia and ensuring the continuity of energy supplies. This reaffirmation occurred during a meeting with his Tunisian counterpart, Salah Zouari, held on the sidelines of the second ministerial meeting concerning the Southern Hydrogen Corridor project. The discussions focused on enhancing and developing bilateral cooperation to serve mutual interests and advance the Algerian-Tunisian partnership.

Minister Adjal specifically highlighted Algeria's dedication to exporting energy to Tunisia during the summer of 2026, even amidst exceptional circumstances experienced by Algeria, as a testament to its resolve to stand by Tunisia. The ministers stressed the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation between Algeria's Sonelgaz group and the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG). This collaboration aims to expand areas of cooperation to meet the future challenges and needs of both countries. The Tunisian Minister, for his part, expressed his nation's interest in leveraging Algeria's expertise and capabilities in the energy sector.
