African Peace Council Applauds Algeria’s Complete Demining

The African Peace and Security Council (APSC) of the African Union has formally congratulated Algeria for successfully achieving the complete demining of its national territory from anti-personnel mines. This commendation was issued in a statement adopted during the APSC's 1371st meeting, highlighting Algeria's dedicated efforts in mine clearance activities.

The APSC lauded the substantial progress made by member states, supported by the African Union Commission and regional economic communities, toward implementing the African Union's Master Roadmap for practical steps to "Silencing the Guns in Africa by 2030." Within this framework, the Council specifically welcomed the endeavors of the Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, particularly its extensive demining operations. The APSC encouraged Algeria to share its valuable expertise and experience with other African nations, both bilaterally and through the African Union.

Furthermore, the African Peace and Security Council extended its congratulations to the Algerian government for hosting the 2026 edition of the "Month of Amnesty in Africa." Held in Algiers on September 14 and 15, 2026, the event operated under the theme of "Promoting the Silencing the Guns Initiative" and "Strengthening Sustainable Peace through Shared Experiences in Combating Small and Light Weapons and Demining Measures," further underscoring Algeria's commitment to regional peace and security initiatives.
