Algiers, Pretoria Advance Joint Investment Opportunities

The Algerian Agency for Investment Promotion (AAPI) has affirmed its commitment to supporting South African investors in Algeria, signaling a move towards a broader joint investment partnership. Omar Rekkache, Director-General of AAPI, confirmed the agency's readiness to provide the necessary assistance to realize South African projects in Algeria. This confirmation came during a meeting with Zanele Sanni, Director-General of Bilateral Economic Relations with Africa at South Africa's Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Competition, where discussions centered on enhancing economic and investment cooperation and exploring opportunities for joint ventures.
This engagement is part of the ongoing momentum in Algerian-South African relations, aimed at strengthening their strategic partnership and expanding economic and commercial cooperation. Mr. Rekkache highlighted Algeria's recent reforms designed to improve the investment climate and develop its institutional and regulatory framework. He emphasized the pivotal role of the single investment window, which is mandated to guide investors, process their applications, and issue contracts, approvals, and licenses from registration through to project operationalization.
Further underscoring the depth of this partnership, a joint ministerial meeting was convened in Algiers, co-chaired by Algeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola. This meeting served to follow up on the outcomes of the 7th session of the Bilateral High Cooperation Committee, which took place in Algiers in December 2024. Both nations reaffirmed their dedication to establishing their bilateral partnership as a model for effective African cooperation, built on mutual trust, shared interests, and solidarity, with a strong focus on strategic projects and enhancing trade and investment promotion.
