United States, Algeria Explore Expanded Energy Partnerships

Sonatrach recently highlighted partnership opportunities with American companies in the hydrocarbons and renewable energy sectors during the 19th "Algeria Energy Day" in Lake Charles, Louisiana. A high-level Algerian delegation, including Sonatrach CEO Nour Eddine Daoudi, Algerian Ambassador Sabri Boukadoum, and Hydrocarbons Ministry Secretary General Miloud Medjelled, participated in the event as part of a working visit to the United States. This engagement reaffirmed Algeria's consistent position as a reliable supplier of natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG), underscoring its pivotal role in Euro-Mediterranean and international energy security.

The discussions during the "Algeria Energy Day" focused on strengthening cooperation and exploring investment prospects within Algeria's oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors. Representatives from major American firms such as Baker Hughes, ExxonMobil, and Occidental Petroleum took part in panels to explore investment opportunities and the development of Algeria's hydrocarbon sector. Sonatrach actively promoted Algeria's attractive hydrocarbon sector reforms, substantial reserves, and flexible infrastructure as key assets for international partners. Exchanges also addressed the development of the green hydrogen value chain, carbon emission reduction initiatives, and the SoutH2 Corridor project, designed to connect Algeria with the European energy market, positioning Algeria as a significant supplier of both conventional and green energies to Europe.

Further solidifying Algeria’s international energy standing, Secretary General Miloud Medjelled led a delegation to the Americas LNG Summit & Exhibition in Louisiana, where Algeria reaffirmed its historical leadership in the global LNG domain. Medjelled emphasized LNG's critical role as an "indispensable bridge" in the global energy transition, with discussions focusing on integrating advanced US technologies to enhance the efficiency of LNG terminals. This strategic outreach reflects Algeria's broader ambition to become the clean energy hub of the Mediterranean, leveraging its conventional energy capacities alongside the development of solar and hydrogen resources. The "Algeria Bid Round 2026" was also highlighted to attract foreign investment, while the Hydrocarbons Regulatory Authority's role in ensuring international standards for industry development and safety was underscored to further enhance investment attractiveness.
